I’m jolly excited: after two and a half years explaining to people what, exactly, an assistant editor does (”you assist the editor, right? Doing what, exactly?”) I’m delighted to say I’ve been promoted, to head of editorial development at Guardian Unlimited.
I’m thrilled - aside from having a more descriptive title, it’s going to be all about delivering journalistic innovation across all our platforms, and we’ve already got some big, distinctive ideas about where that innovation is going to take place. Naturally, I can’t say much more for now. But setting the words “journalism” and “innovation” next to one another, in an age when easy broadband, cheap media-making technology and rapid development techniques are coming together, points to a world of possibility. And a fair bit of responsibility.
Further celebration today: our big new arts super-blog is launched, to join Sports blog and the mighty Comment is free. More, safe to assume, to follow.
