Football stars of yesteryear

We hope to move house soon. The toil began today, shifting some books into boxes, and into storage. Damn Changing Rooms, and fussy buyers.

Trouble is, when I’m shifting books, I’ll only end up reading them. Take this little gem – and see if you can guess when it was written. The answer’s after the jump.

“The football world has changed. Big transfers are commonplace today. Figures that would startle the country a generation ago are looked upon as nothing out of the ordinary now… and playing methods have changed too.

To the football fan avidly watching the scheming forwards of today, with their tricks and frills, it may seem that no other methods could achieve the same result. Their style of play may seem so obvious that it is the only one worth adopting. Yet, in few cases, do they resemble the tactics of the old-timers.”

Suw and I make the move this weekend. We will be with you both in spirit and in achey backs. Good luck. You are officially invited to one of the several flat warming events.
