Developed in conjunction with Matt McAlister’s Dotcom prediction generator:
“Last year I made several predctions that now seem ridiculously pessimistic. But a few ideas were pretty close. I’ve got a feeling that 2006 will be a big year, and here are some of the reasons why:
– A Los Altos startup is going to open our eyes to some new ways that podcasting can influence culture. The Guardian will pick up on this and run several cover stories on the founders.
– Steve Jobs will be in the spotlight for his decision to support RSS. This will upset Tom Coates, and the blogosphere will react remarkably. The noise will quiet before the end of the year and it will all be forgotten soon after the shock.
– BBC.co.uk will see their stock skyrocket after their legally enforced license fee business starts taking off. We’ve seen it coming for a while now, but 2006 will be the year it really kicks into gear.
– Either Yahoo! or Google will seek to expand their advertising business by acquiring Flickr. Completetosh.com will be overlooked in the process, and they will see a management shakeout later in the year.
– One of the big leaders in the newspaper industry will wake up to the opportunity in the Internet and the Web 2.0 trends. After months of speculation, they will make a key acquisition that will shake up the landscape for years to come.”
Some startling ones in there, I think you’ll agree. The realisation that I’m going to sack myself in a management coup is particularly disturbing.

Cybersoc thought this on Jan 09 06 at 12:48 pmYahoo already bought flickr and, more recently, del.icio.us: http://www.cybersoc.com/2005/1.....ires_.html
They’ve also acquired Tom Coates. Maybe you just mixed up a few words in your predictions and got them all right afterall.
