Day one, and Ricky Gervais on Guardian Unlimited is iTunes Music Store’s top podcast, as this picture shows. Congratulations to everyone involved. Do make sure you’ve got yours.

Neil T. thought this on Dec 06 05 at 10:14 amIsn’t it interesting how MSM dominates the world of podcasting now that Apple has got on the podcasting bandwagon?
pieman thought this on Dec 06 05 at 10:33 amToo right. It’s bloody hilarious. I’ve only ever found one disc of The Office in Saigon - OK but didn’t really see what all the fuss was about - but this had me in a total ripsnorter.
Neil McIntosh thought this on Dec 06 05 at 1:43 pmI don’t think it’s necessarily Apple on the podcasting bandwagon, although that helps (a chart gives us nice easy way to see how we’re doing).
Apple’s key contribution, tho, has been the iPod, which offers a standard family of devices on which audio can be heard. Had we had Sony vs Creative vs Microsoft then we’d have three, four, five formats, and probably a lot less technical creativity in the podcasting field. With the standard sorted, folk are free to imagine what they could do with it.
MSM often has the content already (although we didn’t) and certainly already has the attention of lots of people, so MSM success in this - at least for now - is understandable. There’s no reason why that should remain the case for ever.
