- “WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU GUYS DOING UP THERE?”
In easily the funniest post of Democratic Convention week, Matt Drudge transcribes the frantic calls, accidentally picked up by the on-air microphones of CNN, of the Boston convention director Don Mischer. It’s the end of John Kerry’s nomination speech, and poor Don’s demanding “balloons, balloons, balloons!” and “Go confetti. Go confetti. More confetti!”. There’s even [...]
- The perils of “funny” filler text
“Whoever wrote these words must be at least in league with the devil.”
Puts other subbing mistakes into some perspective, you know.
- BlogOff
And while I’m taking potshots at the increasingly smug blogging establishment, it’s worth noting Paidcontent.org editor Rafat Ali’s complaints about the BlogOn conference:
“it was one of the weakest conferences I’ve been to in my two years of running this site.
The sessions were stale, formats were weak, and there was no feeling of any flow and [...]
- Convention blogging: the citizen media revolution arrives
…and, in between blogging about blogging and listening to Tears For Fears tracks during the “less interesting speeches”, Dave Winer sends a powerful dispatch:
“Well, the convention has started. It’s boring beyond belief. It can only get better. Everyone on the floor is mulling around, chatting. Can’t understand what the speakers are saying. It sounds like [...]
- Fulham’s very temporary new home
Fulham fans have a right to be excited about returning to their traditional home - Craven Cottage, perched on the side of the Thames. Having your own place is much better than sharing.
But they shouldn’t get too excited about the standard of the ground itself. I had a chance to try the new place [...]
- PowerBook and the case of the missing Bluetooth
I love my new PowerBook, but it has an irritating habit of forgetting it has Bluetooth. Because of Salling Software’s lovely MobileSync, which effortlessly syncs my Entourage calendar with my Sony Ericsson mobi, this failure is a problem. Since last month, Bluetooth has become the knot at one end of the ball of string holding [...]
- Registration debate
Here’s a very interesting story and discussion on news site registration.
- Our cats have gone to the dogs
I don’t know. BBC Breakfast was down our way today, talking about new powers to fight bad behaviour on London’s streets. You just don’t think it’s a problem that’s going to hit you at home.
Yet when we came home tonight, this (left) was the scene of devastation we found. Now, we’ve tried to bring the [...]
- You what?
Addendum to yesterday’s post on Fahrenheit 9/11: an ad before the film was touting “Chokey Chicken” - a breaded chicken snack on sale in the foyer. What kinda chicken? Doesn’t a very similar phrase have… like… other meanings? Meanings you really don’t want associated with a snack food served to you in a cinema?
- Did Fox open the door for Moore?
Following my earlier frets about all-action, no reflection reporting, I suddenly got several reminders that there is, of course, plenty of reflection - it’s just that much of what exists on US broadcast networks may be hopelessly distorted.
Eric Alterman, a senior fellow of the Center for American Progress, a liberal thinktank, points to some [...]
