And so I kick off my third public weblog, after the now-dormant Swindonlog and the very vibrant Onlineblog.com. And still there’s not much to say in this, the traditionally troublesome first post. Do you just dive right in, or attempt an introduction?
I think the introduction is a little more elegant. Looking back on that first Swindonlog post, it’s entertaining to see that uncertainty, and feel how long it seems since those words were written. Swindon Town, the football club on which Swindonlog centered, came close to death a few months later, and the rest of the two years of posts largely concern the attempts to keep Town going. Things look much brighter at the time of writing, just as I’m moving to London. That’s why the weblog is ending – and a good story is never such compelling writing as a bad one. Is it? Or is it?
Anyway, the fact is my first weblog is dying, just as this one is starting. I’ve no idea if this weblog – created to test TypePad – will last as long as Swindonlog. This might be my only post, or it might be lost for ever in the beta test servers. Or it might last for much longer, following me from sunny Wiltshire to London, and whatever that may hold.
That’s the joy of this weblogging business, and I’m sure I’ll be entertained looking back on this in the years to come. On the TypePad thing, a disclaimer: I’ve promised not to spill on TypePad during the beta, other than to say I’m using it. Don’t expect vast arrays of detail on this, at least not until it’s all up and running. But I’m sure we’ll run the fullest review in Online when they pull the wraps off.
